Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a swim spa and how does it work?

A swim spa is a hybrid between a swimming pool and a spa. It combines powerful jets that create a continuous water current for swimming in place, with relaxation features like spa jets and heated seating. Swim spas are compact compared to full-sized pools and are ideal for fitness, therapy and leisure. They can be installed above or below ground and are available in various sizes and jet configurations. Swim spas are popular for resistance training, hydrotherapy and low-impact workouts. With temperature controls, they can double as a heated plunge pool in cooler months and a refreshing swim area in summer.

  • Is a swim spa suitable for families?

Yes, swim spas are excellent for families of all ages. Children can enjoy splash time, while adults can use it for low-impact exercise, therapy or relaxation. Many swim spas come with multiple seating areas and different jet zones, making them suitable for both play and recovery. Some models include safety features like lockable covers and anti-slip steps, providing peace of mind for parents. They also offer year-round usability thanks to adjustable heating, making them a worthwhile investment for active households. With proper supervision and regular maintenance, a swim spa provides a versatile space for recreation, exercise and family bonding.

  • What maintenance does a swim spa require?

Swim spas require similar maintenance to traditional spas and pools. Regular testing and balancing of pH, sanitiser and alkalinity levels is essential to keep the water clean and safe. Filters should be cleaned weekly or as recommended, while water should be drained and replaced every three to six months depending on usage. It's important to inspect pumps, jets and heating systems regularly to ensure everything functions properly. Debris should be removed from the water surface and skimmer basket. Using a cover when not in use helps maintain temperature and keep contaminants out. Consistent maintenance extends the spa’s life and performance.

  • Can a swim spa be used all year round?

Absolutely. One of the biggest advantages of a swim spa is its year-round usability. Most models come with built-in heaters and insulated shells, allowing you to maintain a comfortable water temperature regardless of the season. You can enjoy a warm soak in winter and a cool dip during warmer months by adjusting the settings. Whether it’s for exercise, hydrotherapy or relaxation, swim spas are designed for all-weather use. To enhance comfort, consider placing your swim spa under a shelter or shade structure. With regular maintenance, a swim spa provides consistent, enjoyable use no matter the time of year.
